In a time marked by profound uncertainties and the wounds of the conflict crossing the Middle East, a signal of rebirth comes from Bethlehem that speaks of care, community, and hope. The new gym of the Catholic Action Foundation's sports center has been inaugurated.
The new sports center represents one more piece within the Catholic Action center in Bethlehem, a place of growth and community that has become a safe space for many families in the city.
The project is the result of a communion of intent that crosses geographical borders. The goal was achieved thanks to the fundamental financial support of the Croatian people and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, joined by numerous benefactors who chose to invest in the future of the Holy Land.
The Catholic Action of Bethlehem confirms itself as an irreplaceable pillar of the local social fabric, offering concrete answers in a context of heavy restrictions and economic crisis.
Presiding over the inaugural moment was Fr. Francesco Ielpo, Custos of the Holy Land. In his speech, he underlined the vision that animates the initiative: "This gym reminds us that the human person is a unity: we are a whole. There is the body, but there is also the soul, there is the spirit. While we exercise our muscles, we must remember that a Christian is also called to train the 'muscles' of the virtues."
A message that transforms a place of leisure into a gym of life, where physical well-being becomes the mirror of an inner health necessary to face daily challenges.
For the director of Catholic Action in Bethlehem, Tony Marqos, the opening of the structure responds to a growing demand for sports centers in the city, but with an added value: safety and a sense of belonging. "We want to offer a complete experience that contributes to the construction of a more aware and healthy community," Marqos declared.
In the same vein was Fr. Sandro Tomasevich, President of the Catholic Action Council, who defined the work as a "divine gift." In a moment when geopolitical crises seem to want to isolate people, the gym stands as a center of aggregation capable of uniting the entire citizenship.
Catholic Action does not stop here. The declared objective is to continue to raise the standards of the Foundation so that it remains, as underlined by the managers, "a lighthouse in the sky of Bethlehem." In a land awaiting peace, the care of young people represents the most concrete way to sow good in the generations to come.
