A più di due anni di distanza dalla fine del processo di ristrutturazione dell'Edicola del Santo Sepolcro, terminato con una Cerimonia Ecumenica tenuta il 22 Marzo 2017, le Comunità Cristiane responsabili dello Status Quo all'interno del Santo Sepolcro hanno firmato un accordo per iniziare una seconda fase di ristrutturazione e riadattamento del Luogo Sacro.
La primo fase di ristrutturazione dell'Edicola è iniziata dopo l'accordo del 22 Marzo 2016. I dieci mesi di lavori sono stati svolti da uno staff diretto dalla professoressa Antonia Moropoulou della National Technical University di Atene, che ha guidato sia gli studi preliminari che il restauro effettivo dell'Edicola.
I lavori sono stati finanziati dalle tre principali comunità Cristiane presenti all'interno del Santo Sepolcro: il Patriarcato Greco-Ortodosso, la Custodia di Terra Santa e il Patriarcato Armeno.
DECLARATION
We, the Head of the Christian Communities in charge of the Status Quo in the Holy Sepulchre of our Lord, announce with great joy and satisfaction our agreement to initiate a project for the restoration and rehabilitation of the foundations of the Holy Tomb and of the pavement of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
This project comes immediately after the positive outcome of the project for the restoration of the Holy Tomb itself. It marks and confirms the Communities' ongoing commitment to the maintenance and rehabilitation of this Holiest place, which in its silence and bareness, eloquently proclaims the very essence of our Faith.
The project will be carried out in two phases, a first stage of study for the determination of the current situation of the foundations and a second phase of restoration of the foundations and of the pavement of the Church.
Two Italian academic and scientific institution of the highest qualification shall carry out the studies and execute the works under the supervision of the joint committee of the three Communities.
We pray God Almighty to bless this initiative and crown the project with success.
