On Thursday, May 24th, the Franciscans accepted the Dominicans’ invitation to join them in celebrating their holy founder of the Order of Preachers.
In accordance with tradition, then, a number of Franciscan friars went to Saint Stephen’s Convent to join that community in celebrating the feast of the Translation of the Relics of Saint Dominic. Brother Stephane Milovich ofm was the principal concelebrant, while Brother Alviero Niccacci ofm gave the homily. He recalled, with good humor, that during their meeting Saints Francis and Dominic regarded each other with love, which has not always been the case with their followers, according to historians. Signs of the times, the Franciscans and the Dominicans then adjourned to the refectory where they enjoyed a convivial meal together.
A point to remember: the same day marks the translation of the relics of Saint Francis to Assisi.
