The Sixtieth Anniversary of the Pope’s Ordination. The Prayer and Good Wishes of the Custody

Jerusalem, June 28, 2011

Tomorrow, June 29, the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, is the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Presbyterial Ordination of His Holiness Benedict XVI. It was on June 29, 1951 that the young Joseph Ratzinger, then age 24, started out on the path as a priest.
On this occasion, the Custody of the Holy Land, remembering the affection that St. Francis had for the Prince of Apostles, wishes to offer a Holy Mass to the Successor of Peter in all the sanctuaries in the Holy Land. On the special invitation of the Custos, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Eucharist will be celebrated tomorrow for the intentions of the Holy Father, and in a special manner at Capernaum, Tabgha, Jaffa, Damascus, Nazareth and Jerusalem.
All the friars and the faithful of the Holy Land are invited to remember the intentions of the Pope during the community prayer.
Here is the full message of good wishes that the Custos Father has sent the Pope:

His Holiness Benedict XVI
Vatican City

Your Holiness,

The Friars Minor of the Custody of the Holy Land wish to express their gratitude to God for the gift of your mission as Universal Pastor of Holy Mother Church.

On the occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary of your Presbyterial Ordination, the friars wish you, Your Holiness, every grace in the Lord and, following the example of St. Francis of Assisi, renew their filial obedience to Peter’s Successor.

On June 29, the day of your Anniversary, the friars of the Custody of the Holy Land, in a spirit of prayer and devotion, will celebrate the Holy Eucharist for your intentions in all the sanctuaries of our Mission in the Middle East, and in a special manner at Caparnaum in the House of the Prince of the Apostles, at the Primacy of St. Peter in Tabgha, at St. Peter in Jaffa, at the Memorial of St. Paul in Damascus, at the Holy House of Nazareth, in the Holy Grotto of the Nativity, on Holy Mount Calvary and in the Holy and Glorious Sepulchre of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

I have the honour to profess myself with the most profound respect, Your Holiness’ most obedient and humble servant.

Fr Pierbattista Pizzaballa, ofm
Custos of the Holy Land
