Second edition of the Magnificat String Competition sponsored by the Dutch Lieutenancy of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre

Tuesday, 20th December 2011

On Saturday 17th December in the auditorium of St. Saviour in Jerusalem, the second edition of the Magnificat String Competition, the music competition for string instruments (guitar, violin, cello) sponsored by the Dutch Lieutenancy of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre came to an end. The competition is still internal, as it is only for the students of the Magnificat and the pupils of the teachers of the Magnificat enrolled in other schools. The aim is educational: to stimulate the pupils to work harder and from the very beginning to become used to perform before a jury and an audience.

They jury was made up of teachers of the instruments and external members from other schools. The youngest entrant was seven years old, the oldest eighteen; there were thirty entrants, divided into the various categories. All that remains for us to do is give the names of the winners who are, for the guitar, Yael Boasson, Simon Kasbari, Roey Meir and Fadi Kuttab; for the cello Sofia Shammà, Yasmeen Sabbara and Nadine Shaheen; for the violin Zein Assali, Rita Tawil and Shireen Abu-Adeed. At the end of the concert by the winners, Father Armando Pierucci, director of the Magnificat, awarded the prizes and certificates.
