The World Pastoral Congress of Pilgrimages and Sanctuaries was held in Santiago di Compostela, bringing together Bishops and many other representatives from the various continents from 27th to 30th September 2010. Accompanied by a message from His Holiness Benedict XVI, the participants of the Congress worked and reflected on the importance of pilgrimages and sanctuaries as a manifestation of Christian life and a place for evangelization. The event, as well as giving a chance to all to share information of everything concerning sanctuaries and holy places all over the world, offered a starting point for a debate on ideas and notions that can enrich the pilgrims’ experience, also taking care of their welcome and expectations.
