The Rababa Internal String Competition, sponsored by the Dutch lieutenancy of the knights of the Holy Sepulcre’s has come to a conclusion

The Rababa Internal String Competition, organized by the Magnificat Institute of the Custody of the Holy Land and sponsored by the Dutch Lieutenancy of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, was held on Friday 8th October in the Immaculata Hall of the Convent of St. Saviour in Jerusalem.

Over thirty children, most of them aged from 7 to 11, took part in the competition, which has a very precise official set of regulations. The young musicians did not show any fear or concern in front of the jury as they played the set pieces and those they chose, divided into three categories, according to the difficulty, for guitar, violin and cello. The jury, presided by Father Armando Pierucci, founder of the Magnificat, was made up of the internal members Tania Belzer, Fabienne Van Eck, Helena Poltavsky, Yevgeni Markel, Shiri Coneh and the external member Giovanni Tarca from the National Conservatoire of Palestine. The concert featuring the winners and the awards ceremony was held on Sunday 10th October.

The Dutch Lieutenancy of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, as well as the competition, will fund the Magnificat with special care for teaching the cello, for a total of euro 19,700. Looking for these subsidies is necessary as the school fees cover only two months of the teachers’ salaries, without counting the other expenses.
