Priesthood ordination of bro Shadi Bader ofm in Jordan

The Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land rejoices today for one of its sons who has been elevated to the order of presbyterate. Yesterday afternoon, in the church of the Holy Land College in Amman, Jordan, Fr. Shadi Hani Bader was ordained priest, with the imposition of the hands and the consecratory prayer of His Excellency Mons. Ghaleb Bader, recently appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Algiers.

About forty priests, including many brothers from the Custody of the Holy Land and various priests from the dioceses, took part in the celebration. Amongst them there were also many relatives of the newly-elected presbyterate, who comes from a family with many vocations for the priestly and religious life: seven priests come from this family and there have been more than ten religious vocations from it. The consecrating Bishop is also a relative of Fr. Shadi.

His Excellency Mons. Salem Sayegh, Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem for Jordan and Father Artemio Vitores, Custodial Vicar, on behalf of the Father Custos, who was unable to attend, also took part in the ceremony.

The liturgy was enlivened by the songs of a fine group of students from the College, conducted by Father Firas Lutfi, who had been preparing for this celebration for some time.

The new priest was then fêted by his relatives and friends in the courtyard of the Franciscan school in traditional Arab fashion, with singing and dancing in his honour. This morning, in his home village, al-Husson, Fr. Shadi celebrated his first Holy Mass at 11.00 a.m.

Our most sincere wishes go to our brother for a priestly ministry that is a true imitation of the total gift of oneself of the supreme and eternal Priest, Jesus Christ.
