St. Francis had a sweet veneration for the mysteries of the earth life of Jesus and for that reason considered the Holy Land like a sacred place, place of encounter between God and the men and of the men between themselves. The Order of the Friars Minor, celebrating the eight hundred years of its foundation, wants today to emphasize its particular care for the holy places, of which it is custodian from the times of St. Francis, considering them the “pearl” of its missions. For that reason, almost two hundred young friars minor from all the world, summoned by the general Minister, fr. Jose R. Carballo, will meet from the 1st to the 8th of July to live one week of spiritual Chapter (1st-5th July in Nazareth; 6th-8th July in Jerusalem). The subject of the meeting “According to your word” (Secundum verbum tuum) indicates the desire that animated the organizers of the event: to give the opportunity to open a productive dialogue between the central Government of the Order and the young friars spread in all the realities of the world, to deal together with the present difficulties of the religious life; to put themselves in humble listening of the Word of God there where the Word became flesh and lived among us; to discern in the light of the Word the necessary refoundation of the Franciscan presence in the world and to walk with new passion in the pathway of the conversion and the testimony of the Risen Lord. The celebration of this Chapter of Mats also says with simplicity the will of dialog and Christian hope that does not die, in front of the situations of difficult coexistence between peoples, in the spirit that St. Francis always taught, with the life and the words, the reconciliation and the peace.
