At Nazareth, The International Day of Prayer for Priests

On the occasion of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, proclaimed by Pope John-Paul II, Christians throughout the world prayed for those who spend their lives in the service of the Gospel. And at ten in the morning, in the chapel of the Mary of Nazareth Centre, members of the Chemin Neuf community recited the rosary with local Christians, using the words spoken by the Angel Gabriel to Mary in this very place. Songs and meditations accompanied the rosary.

So this is a day of prayer, in Marian sactuaries throughout the world, for priests everywhere. In these prayers we turn to Jesus through Mary to pray for our pastors, as Pope Benedict XVI has asked us to do.

This is a gesture which has united Catholics everywhere in praying that priests are helped to live out their vocations in holiness in imitation of Christ. Prayers held on this occasion in what was once a very small town in ancient Palestine.
