On the occasion of the Beatification of John Paul II, the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth is hosting a series of events and ceremonies to commemorate the Pope’s pilgrimage in the Holy Land during the Grand Jubilee of 2000, and his moment of prayer in front of the Grotto of the Nativity on March 25th of the same year.
An exhibition entitled “John Paul II is with Us” was inaugurated at the Auditorium of the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth on Tuesday, April 26th, and will remain open to visitors until Saturday, May 7th, with liturgical objects and photos of the newly Beatified Pope on display. Mons. Mario Russotto, Bishop of Caltanissetta, on a pilgrimage with the faithful of his Diocese, inaugurated the exhibition together with the Guardian of the Sanctuary, Father Ricardo Bustos. He expressed his gratitude for this small gesture in honour of this great Pope John Paul II.
On Saturday, April 30th, at 8.30 p.m., the Marian Torchlight Procession will have a special programme and a special intention addressed to the beatification; the Torchlight Procession was organized for the first time six years ago, on May 1st 2005, to commemorate the death of John Paul II, deliberately established at the Marian sanctuary dear to the Pope. Since then it has become a weekly meeting which unites pilgrims and local Christians in prayer.
On Sunday, May 1st, grace will be rendered with an evening of prayer, videos and music, animated by the Shalom Catholic Community and by the New Life Community, under the technical direction of Father Miroslav Jadloz and Brother Sinisa Sbrenovich. The appointment is for 8.30 p.m., at the Auditorium of the Basilica!
