The Mass in the Church of St. Saviour’s this morning, Sunday June 26, was a special one. The 10 o’clock service was an occasion to remember and celebrate the Priestly Jubilees of a good number of Franciscans of the Custody for whom 2011 marks an important anniversary (25, 50, 60 or 70 years) of their ordination.
In his homily, Father Jerzy Kraj, who celebrated the Mass and was himself one of those celebrating his 25 years of priesthood, said, “On these occasions it is easy to say ‘already’ and to think that we have already covered a long distance as priests.
On the contrary, we should use the adverb “still”, asking ourselves how much more we can still do in the service of Christ.”
“Today,” he continued, “we are grateful for having been chosen, for having been vested with this election. We ask forgiveness for when we have been unable to stay at the side of Christ on the cross. Once again, we say 'yes'."
