Maria Voce visits the Custody

This morning, Maria Voce, President of the “ Focolare Movement”, and Giancarlo Faletti Co-President, visited the Custos of the Holy Land. They arrived yesterday evening with a busy schedule of meetings, and they began with a visit to the Custody.

“Thanks to your presence over the centuries, we can now come and visit the land which was our Lord’s,“ Maria Voce said at the beginning of the pleasant meeting, recalling that she had already been to the Holy Land several years ago and it was with great joy that she was here again.

The Father Custos explained the ecumenical situation in the Holy Land, the collaboration between the various Churches and the various expressions of Christianity, with the various movements and relations with the Muslim world; these are all topics dear to the members of Focolare Movement, as seeking dialogue both in the Catholic Church in its various expressions and with other confessions is a specific point in their charisma.

Maria Voce has great experience in the ecumenical and inter-religious field, as she has a background as a lawyer of canon law and lived in Turkey for ten years, where she was able to concretise her research in the field of dialogue between different faiths.
The Father Custos and Maria Voce continued their dialogue taking stock of the relations between the Custody and the thirty years of presence of the Focolare Movement in the Holy Land: it is a discreet and concrete presence which builds up the Church of Jerusalem with the particular charisma of this movement.

The cordial meeting came to an end with an exchange of gifts.
Maria Voce is expected tomorrow afternoon at 4.00 p.m. at the Custody for a meeting open to all. The important meeting that the President will hold at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on Wednesday 16th March on the theme “The role of dialogue to promote Peace” is a date to be saved.
