Lecture by Mgr. Angelo Amato at Terra Sancta College

It was at the Franciscan’s Terra Sancta College in West Jerusalem that the Salesians of Don Bosco, who occupy Ratisbonne Center, officially opened their Studium Theologicum’s academic year.

All the Salesian seminarians, their professors, and numerous guests met for a morning of lectures. The meatiest of them all was that of Mgr. Angelo Amato, a Salesian who, as secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, is very close to Holy Father Benedict XVI.

His lecture, delivered in English, was entitled “Studying theology in a multi-religious context in the light of Dominum Iesus”, a declaration that was written in 2000 for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith by one Joseph Ratzinger, who was then the Prefect of the Congregation, and in the preparation of which Mgr. Amato participated.

A subject of importance for these students who every day - like all Catholics here - function in a multi-religious context that requires everyone to dig deeper into their own tradition and the knowledge of their own faith.

In the audience were the Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr. Antonio Franco; the Auxiliary Bishop of Nazareth, Mgr. Giacinto Boulus Marcuzzo; the Custos of the Holy Land, Pierbattista Pizzaballa; and representatives of other institutes of theological and biblical education in Jerusalem.

The morning’s schedule continued, ending, after a musical interval and coffee break, with the presentation of a book written by Father Michele Ferrero sdb and dedicated to Father Vernet sdb.
