Friday, January 1. According to tradition, a large crowd of men and women religious, representatives of the Latin communities in the Holy Land, many local faithful and pilgrims passing through came together on the first day of the year around his Beatitude Patriarch Fouad Twal in the church of the Latin Patriarchate for a Mass for peace.

The assembly’s prayers rose with fervor to the Blessed Virgin Mary on this day that is dedicated to her, that she might intercede with the Prince of Peace, her son Jesus, for the Holy Land and all its inhabitants.

The Mass was accompanied by the voices of the Holy Land Custody’s choir, and served by the Franciscan seminarians as well as those of the Latin Patrirachate.

At the end of the celebration, the faithful could express their good wishes to the Patriarch, who was accompanied by the Apostolic Nuncio, Msgr. Kamal Bathish, the emeritus auxiliary bishop, the Custos of the Holy Land, Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, and the patriarchal vicar for the Hebrew-speaking Catholics, Fr. David Neuhaus.
