First meeting of the Committee of Male Religious Institutions in the Holy Land

Jerusalem, March 12th

The Committee of Male Institutions in the Holy Land met on the morning of Saturday 12th March. Representatives from the various religious institutions met at the Jesuits’ centre in Jerusalem to get to know one another and share experiences.

The director of the Committee is the Jesuit Father Joseph Nquyen Cong Doan, assisted by the secretary, the Dominican Father Guy Tardivy. Father Stéphane Milovitch, currently Guardian of the convent in Bethlehem represented the order of Friars Minor.

The meeting, chaired in the first part by H.E. Mons. William Shomali, Auxiliary Bishop of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, had the aim of sharing the problems that the various religious institutions are facing, to create collaborations between them and to make the relationship with the local Ecclesiastical Authority easier, in line with what emerged from the Synod of the Bishops of the Middle East.

In his introduction, H.E. Mons. Shomali thanked all the representatives for coming and for always having been helpful over the years. He presented the pastoral project of proposing meditation on the word in every Christian family, showing the first leaflets and hoping in collaboration from everyone.

It is a fine project that aims to follow up the proposals of the Synodal Fathers. This was followed by a presentation by the various representatives of the institutions present and a rapid lunch so that the attendees could take part in the procession and Solemn Entrance to the Holy Sepulchre for the first Sunday in Lent.
