After showing the head teachers the support that the Custody intends to guarantee for educational activities, the Custos Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa shared a Christmas meal with the teachers of the two schools in Jerusalem one for boys and the other for girls.
“My being here aims to show the support that the Custody wants to give the schools and to express its gratitude to you, who make the schools what they are: not only a place of learning of great quality but also a second home for the young people that attend them, Christians and Muslims alike. Please be aware that we know very well that your work as teachers and educators is not always easy, especially in the situation we are going through, so once again we thank you and assure you of our constant support. Like me, you also know that the world has its eyes on Jerusalem and what happens in Jerusalem, including what happens in our schools, has an impact on the whole country and on all our schools.”
All the school personnel were present, meaning, for the two schools in Jerusalem, about 70 people. Alongside the Custos were Father Simon Pietro Herro, head of the boys’ school hosting the event and who made sure that everything went smoothly, Sister Frida Nasser, of St. Joseph of the Apparition and head of the girls’ school near the Jaffa Gate, but also Friar Ibrahim Faltas, bursar of the Custody, Friar Eugenio Kamar, Friar Amjad Sabbara, Friar Jad Sara, these last three former pupils of the school, Friar Nerwan Nasser al-Banna, vicar of the parish and the sisters of St. Joseph, Sister Thérèse Jaar and Sister Gladys.
Before the meal was over, the winners of a lucky draw received their prizes. This was followed by a quiz where, on the one hand the teachers gave a sample of their knowledge and on the other, showed that they could raise their hands to be tested and burst out laughing. It was in this joyous atmosphere and to the rhythm of dancing that this get-together for Christmas came to an end.
The Custody wishes all the teachers enjoyable holidays and a Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it.
