The Custody of the Holy Land joins in mourning at the death of Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio in the USA and former Apostolic Nuncio and Delegate in the Holy Land.
During his years of service, he was appreciated for the love, passion and clarity with which he served this Holy and martyred Land. In particular, the Custody remembers his important contribution to the preparation and organization of the visit by the Holy Father John Paul II. The Archbishop played a decisive role in the resolution of the crisis in the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
