Clare welcomes Thérèse

Jerusalem, 2nd May 2011

“It is Thérèse herself who comes in our midst with her overwhelming love, with her desire to ‘make Jesus loved as He desires to be loved’.”

This afternoon, the Poor Clares of Jerusalem received the urn with the relics of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.

Accompanying the Saint of Lisieux to the monastery – which a few weeks ago inaugurated the year of the eighth centenary of the foundation of the Order – were some friars from the Custody of the Holy Land.

In procession, the remains of Thérèse reached the altar, whilst writings by St. Clare were read. “And so Clare receives and welcomes Thérèse,” explained the Mother Superior, Sister Cristiana.

Greatly moved, the sisters covered the urn with the relics, which for a whole day will be the guest of the Poor Clares, with petals.

Vespers, led by the spiritual father of the monastery, Brother Frédéric Manns, and a vigil of evening prayers were held in the presence of the Saint of Lisieux .
