The brothers of the Chapter today finished work in Nazareth in order to visit the Holy Places that constitute a true “geography of salvation”. Two professors of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, br. Frédéric Manns and br. Stefano De Luca, presented the theological message and the archaeological importance of the places around the Lake of Tiberias.
In the morning, the brothers visited the Mount of the Beatitudes taking a time of silence before a celebration in which the Beatitudes were proclaimed in relation to today’s examples and challenges. The General Definitor, fr. Jakab Várnai, who presided the celebration, invited the brothers to become themselves an incarnation of the beatitudes in our world.
After a refreshment offered by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary who are in charge of the Sanctuary, all were transferred to Tabgha, alongside the lake of Galilee, where they visited the Church of the Primacy or the Sanctuary of the multiplication of the loafs and the fish. At noon they enjoyed a picnic prepared by young people of “Mondo X” and took a time for a rest during the hottest hour of the day. On foot or in bus they went to Cafarnaum where they celebrated Eucharist.
The General Definitor br. Mario Favretto helped to remember that each brother is called to live his vocation to love, following Jesus Christ even with one’s weaknesses as the apostle Saint Peter did. After mass the friars visited in groups the archaeological zone around the house of Saint Peter. When visits were finished the buses took all back to Nazareth.
