After chamber music, it’s time for sacred music at the MOM concerts

Jerusalem, 12th May 2011

The first edition of the MOM – Magnificat Open Music – concerts has reached its half-way mark: the next two concerts will be held in the Church of St. Saviour in Jerusalem on Tuesday 17th and Tuesday 24th May at 6.00 p.m., entrance free of charge, with a programme of sacred music.

The idea of this new initiative of the Magnificat Institute (the school of music of the Custody of the Holy Land) is for teachers and students to play together, but also students together and teachers together: in addition to the educational and artistic benefits, this creates a fraternal climate between the musicians, who can be of different nationalities, relations and languages, but are united by the common language of music. Naturally, there will also be solo pieces.

A special invitation has been extended to pilgrims through the various agencies, with the aim of presenting one of the activities of the Custody of the Holy Land linked to services to people, after they have become acquainted with the activity related to the care of the sanctuaries during their journey.

The first two concerts were held in Immacolata Hall, and offered chamber music for various formations (solo, duet, trio and quintet) and instruments (violin, cello, flute, voice, piano and four- six-hand piano, pieces for two pianos). The next two, performed in the Church of St. Saviour, will offer sacred music for organ, voice and instruments on 17th May and for organ and choir on 24th May, when the choir of the Custody of the Holy Land and the Yasmeen Choir, made up of girls only and conducted by Hania Soudah Sabbara, will perform an entire mystery of the rosary, sung throughout, with the Our Father, Regina Caeli and ten Ave Marias by different composers.
