The permanent formation meeting for the guardians of the convents of the Holy Land took place in Nazareth from December 9 to 11, with the participation of thirty friars of the Custody of the Holy Land. A similar meeting took place in Cyprus last week, where friars from Italy, Syria, and Jordan gathered.
The Custodial Vicar, Fr. Ulises Zarza, emphasized how this initiative, strongly desired by the new government of the Custody of the Holy Land, represents an important opportunity for meeting and sharing among the guardians, who come from different shrines of the Holy Land.
The meeting in Nazareth and the one held the previous week in Cyprus marked the beginning of a new formation path, which became necessary after the custodial chapter held in the summer of 2025 led some friars to assume for the first time the role of guardians, that is, “friars responsible for a fraternity, a community of friars in a place.”
