On the afternoon of Wednesday January 16, 2019, the Custody of the Holy Land opened its doors to the students and professors of the Winter School of the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies organized by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The lectures were by Profs. Edoardo Barbieri and Alessandro Tedesco, Ph.D.
For the occasion, the books chosen for the exhibit, “The Bible on the move: traditions and translations of the Holy Scriptures,” which was introduced last November at the General Library of the Custody of the Holy Land: a journey through the biblical texts of various languages and periods, from Esther to the multilingual Bible, from the first Arabic translation editions to the Sixto-Clementine Vulgate.
The participants were given the opportunity to admire and examine the items on exhibit so that they could then express their observations and questions: an experience that seemed to please everyone thanks to the encounter and the cultural and personal enrichment that comes from it. Ray Schrire, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem said, “It was a very nice event, which showed off the real treasures of the library. The students appreciated the experience and the professors are thinking about future collaborations.”
