Fr. Perry re-elected Minister General of the Franciscan Order

After eleven days of prayer, sharing and reflection, the General Chapter of the Franciscans, re-elected Fr. Perry as minister general of the Order.
Gathered in Assisi, the birthplace of the Order, the chapter brothers were asked if they chose to retain Fr. Perry as the head of the Franciscan Order.
He had been elected as “transitional” minister when the previous minister general, Monsignor Carballo, took on his responsibilities at the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life (2013).
Born in 1954 in the United States, Fr. Perry joined the Franciscans in 1984. He served as provincial minister for a time in the United States, and he then flew to Congo to work as a missionary for 10 years.
His task ahead is important: living in Rome, he has custody of the order and therefore of the Franciscan Rule.
All of the Friars Minor of the Custody of the Holy Land give thanks for this re-election. The singing of the Te Deum resonates at St. Savior's Church after vespers at 7:15 p.m.
