Letture: Ef 2,13-18; Sal 30; Lc 23,33-49
- Carissime sorelle e carissimi fratelli, il Signore vi dia Pace!
Un saluto speciale a tutti coloro che ci seguono attraverso il Christian Media Center, fedeli e pellegrini, amici e benefattori di Terra Santa. Sappiamo che tutti voi siete qui col cuore e vorreste poter tornare a venire anche come pellegrini per celebrare con noi le feste pasquali. Dato che non è ancora possibile, cerchiamo di raggiungervi attraverso la trasmissione di questa speciale Eucaristia, che celebriamo per voi e secondo le vostre intenzioni.
- Siamo nel luogo dove Gesù ha manifestato l’amore più grande, quello che arriva fino al dono di sé e della propria vita. Siamo nel luogo dove Gesù ha dato la vita per riconciliare il Cielo e la terra, l’umanità e il creato. Siamo nel luogo dove Gesù ha manifestato il perdono e la misericordia del Padre. Siamo nel luogo dove Gesù crocifisso ha donato tutto se stesso, fino all’ultima goccia di sangue e fino all’ultimo respiro, per distruggere l’inimicizia, per donarci la pace e per renderci tutti fratelli.
- In questo luogo santissimo vogliamo ancora una volta pregare per gli ammalati, per coloro che li assistono, per i tanti poveri che non hanno mezzi per curarsi, ma anche per i pastori e i governanti, che si trovano a dover compiere scelte difficili per il bene della gente. Vogliamo pregare in modo particolare per voi amici e benefattori di Terra Santa, che con la vostra generosità ci permettete di continuare la nostra missione in questa che è la terra di Gesù, la terra in cui il Figlio di Dio si è fatto uomo e ha dato la vita per amore nostro e per la nostra salvezza qui sul Calvario.
- Abbiamo ascoltato poco fa il brano della Lettera agli Efesini che ci ha ricordato come Gesù ha demolito il muro di inimicizia che separa i popoli: l’ha demolito con un supplemento di amore. Il suo amore è stato così grande da portarlo a dare la propria vita per riunire in una sola famiglia tutta l’umanità, al di là delle differenze di lingua, di cultura e di razza. È questo il fondamento del nostro essere tutti fratelli, come ci ha ricordato di recente papa Francesco nella sua ultima enciclica. È questo anche il fondamento della vera pace e dell’amicizia tra i popoli. È questo il fondamento del dialogo nell’amore.
- Nel vangelo secondo Luca abbiamo ascoltato come questo grande evento di riconciliazione, operato da Gesù in croce, ha due momenti fondamentali e legati tra di loro: il momento in cui Gesù prega il Padre e invoca il perdono per i suoi crocifissori e il momento in cui Gesù accoglie il malfattore che si affida a lui pentito e gli apre le porte del Paradiso.
- Così in tre passaggi la parola di Dio che abbiamo ascoltato ci fa scoprire qualcosa di fondamentale per la nostra vita cristiana.
Anzitutto ci fa scoprire che la sorgente della nostra riconciliazione e del perdono sta nella preghiera di Gesù al Padre e nel suo donare la vita per amore nostro, con un amore infinito, più grande del peccato di ogni uomo e dell’intera umanità. Quella di Gesù – ricordiamolo bene – non è la preghiera di intercessione per una umanità pentita ma è una preghiera di intercessione per una umanità incosciente del proprio peccato. Il suo non è un perdono che raggiunge chi si è reso conto del male commesso, ma è un perdono che previene e che suscita poi un movimento interiore di pentimento e di riconoscimento del male commesso, prima nel buon ladrone e poi nel Centurione e nella gente che si era fermata a guardare la scena di lontano.
- In secondo luogo ci viene detto che possiamo fare esperienza del perdono e della riconciliazione in forma personale nel momento stesso – nell’ “oggi” – in cui ci affidiamo a Gesù (come il buon ladrone) e ci lasciamo accogliere da Lui. È un momento speciale di verità quello in cui ci assumiamo la responsabilità di tutto ciò che abbiamo fatto senza incolpare altri, ed è un momento speciale di amore quello in cui ci consegniamo con fiducia nelle mani di Gesù, così come siamo. E Lui, Gesù crocifisso, in quell’istante ci riconcilia con il Padre, ci riconcilia con tutta la nostra storia di fallimenti e di peccato, e ci apre le porte del paradiso, del regno dei Cieli. E lo fa con amore infinito. E lo fa con amore personale.
- In terzo luogo ci viene ricordato che la dimensione universale della riconciliazione e del perdono, ci fa superare tutte le distanze che ci separano dal Padre e tra di noi e ci trasforma in un’unica famiglia, dentro la quale le differenze sono riconciliate nell’amore più grande, che è quello di Gesù in croce. È una riconciliazione così profonda che ci mette in comunione non solo con tutta l’umanità ma con l’intero creato, rinnovato e riconciliato nell’amore.
- In questo luogo santissimo, sorgente di misericordia e di riconciliazione, preghiamo anche noi con fiducia: “Signore Gesù Crocifisso, chiedi ancora al Padre tuo e Padre nostro, sorgente di infinita bontà e misericordia, che faccia discendere su di noi e sull’umanità intera il suo perdono che rinnova la nostra esistenza e ci apre le porte del paradiso”. Amen.

May the Lord give you His Peace!
A special greeting to all those who are following us through the Christian Media Centre, faithful and pilgrims, friends and benefactors of the Holy Land. We know that all of you are here present with your heart and would like to be able to return as pilgrims to celebrate Easter with us. Since it is not yet possible, we are trying to reach you through the transmission of this special Eucharist, which we are celebrating for you and for your intentions.
- We are in the place where Jesus manifested the greatest love of all, a love that reaches to the point of giving Himself and even His life. We are in the very place where Jesus gave His life to reconcile Heaven and earth, humanity and creation. We are in the place where Jesus manifested the forgiveness and mercy of the Father. We are in the place where Jesus crucified gave His total being, to the last drop of His blood and to His very last breath, to destroy enmity, to give us peace and to make us all brothers.
- In this most Holy Place we wish to pray once again for the sick, for those who care for them, for the many poor who have no means to take care of themselves, and also for the pastors and rulers, who find themselves having to make difficult choices for the good of the people. We want to pray in a particular way for you, our dear and loyal friends and benefactors of the Holy Land, who with your generosity allow us to continue our mission in the Land of Jesus, the Land where the Son of God became man and gave His life for our sake and for our salvation here on Calvary.
- We have just listened to the passage from the Letter to the Ephesians which reminded us of how Jesus demolished the wall of enmity that separates people: He demolished it with a supplement of love. His love for us was so great that it led Him to give His life in order to reunite all humanity into one family, regardless of the differences of language, culture and race. This is the foundation of our being brothers, as Pope Francis recently reminded us in his latest encyclical. This is also the foundation of true peace and friendship between people. This is the foundation of a dialogue founded in love.
- In the Gospel according to Luke we heard how this great event of reconciliation, brought about by Jesus on the Cross, has two fundamental and linked moments: the moment in which Jesus prays to the Father and invokes forgiveness for His crucifiers and the moment in which in Jesus welcomes the “good”-thief who entrusts Himself to Him repentant and opens the doors of Paradise to Him.
- Thus in the following three passages the word of God that we have heard makes us discover something fundamental for our Christian life.
First of all, it makes us discover that the source of our reconciliation and forgiveness lies in the prayer of Jesus to the Father and in His giving of His life for our sake, with an infinite love, greater than the sin of every man and of all humanity. That of Jesus – let us remember it well – it is not the prayer of intercession for a repentant humanity, but it is a prayer of intercession for a humanity unaware of its sin. His is not a forgiveness that reaches those who have realized the evil committed, but it is a forgiveness that prevents and then arouses an interior stirring within us of repentance and recognition of the evil committed, first in the good thief and then in the Centurion and in the people who had stopped to look at this Crucifixion scene from afar.
- Secondly, we are told that we can experience forgiveness and reconciliation in a personal form in the very moment – in the "to-day" – in which we entrust ourselves to Jesus (as the good thief did) and allow ourselves to be welcomed by Him. For it is a special moment of truth when we take responsibility for everything we have done without blaming others, and it is a special moment of love when we confidently deliver ourselves into the hands of Jesus, just as we are, in that very instant He reconciles us with the Father, He reconciles us with our whole history of failures and sin, and opens the doors to heaven, to the Kingdom of Heaven; You may be sure, He does it with infinite love; you may be sure, He does it with personal love.
- Thirdly, we are reminded that the universal dimension of reconciliation and forgiveness makes us overcome the distance that separates us from the Father and the separations that exist between us and transforms us into a single family, within which differences are reconciled in a greater love, which is that of Jesus on the Cross. It is such a profound reconciliation that it puts us in communion not only with all of humanity but with the whole of creation, renewed and reconciled in love.
- In this most Holy Place, the source of mercy and reconciliation, let us also pray with confidence: “O Lord Jesus Crucified, we ask again your Father and our Father, the source of infinite goodness and mercy, that He may pour upon us and upon all humanity His forgiveness which renews our existence and opens to us the doors of paradise”. Amen.
