What is the Jubilee?

In the Catholic tradition the Jubilee is a major event of faith. It is a special year, also called a Holy Year, which brings with it all the richness of Grace and Mercy. It is the occasion the Church offers to all the faithful so they can take a more intense path of conversion and reconciliation with God and their brothers.

During this year, the Church not only invites us to rediscover the sacrament of Penance (Confession) but once again presents the institution of Indulgences. These are a free gift which consists of the remission of temporal sins, the trace of personal sins, which need full purification to enter into definitive communion with God. This way, the Church opens up to everyone the possibility of going through the Door of Mercy (including physically through the Holy Doors) and finding again the hope that is born out of forgiveness.
