The Holy Father has accepted the resignation presented by His Excellency Msgr. Giuseppe Nazzaro, OFM, Bishop of Aleppo, and has nominated the Reverend Father George Abou Khazen, OFM as Apostolic Administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of the Apostolic Vicariate of Aleppo of the Latins.

Fr. George Abou Khazen, born in Ain Zebdeh – Lebanon – in 1947, was ordained priest on 28 June 1973.
From 1973 till today, Fr. Abou Khazen has exercised the office of Parrochial and Conventual Vicar of St. Catherine in Alexandria in Egypt. He was Parish Priest in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, a member of the Commission for Pastoral Ministry, of the Custodial Liturgical Commission, Custodial Assistant of the Secular Franciscan Order, Regional Assistant for the Holy Land for the same Order, and in 1992, Discreet of the Holy Land.

Fr. Abou Khazen is presently Guardian and Parish Priest of the Friary of Saint Francis in Aleppo in Syria. Since 2004 he has been Vicar General for the area of Aleppo of the Apostolic Vicariate of the Latins in Syria.
