At the School of Peace

Even peace can be taught. In the Coptic school of Beit Hanina, a suburb of Jerusalem, a meeting dedicated to the youth took place, involving three schools, 12 NGOs, and some Israelis and Palestinians who have chosen to "fight" for peace - and meet together in order to get to know and understand each other.

"These are the schools that want to work for peace in a proactive way. This means to be active, and there are three schools in Israel and the West Bank in which the students are taught throughout the year about the causes of the conflict and how to build a culture of peace ".

Knowledge is a key to finding peaceful solutions, and there is no need to wait, even when knowledge is painful. Suleiman can explain this well, who after spending 10 years in an Israeli jail is among the most active advocates of nonviolence.

It’s especially a long road to teach the values of peace and nonviolence to the younger generations. Larry Lester, an activist of the association, is convinced of this. While explaining to curious children this conflict that haunts a land fought over by all, he does not hesitate to talk about what he learned by meeting people, especially Palestinians, moved by a sincere desire to put an end to this conflict.

Hidden to the old and revealed to the young. The Gospel of Matthew somehow seems to inspire the work with these children who will become the future leaders of the country – walking in the corridors asking questions, listening to opinions, to become, even now, more responsible.

"Let's do something for the students. They are the future, these students will be the future of this land."
