Incursion into the Basilica of Mount Tabor

Night incursion into the Church of the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, its door and windows were forced. The Brothers of the sanctuary became aware of what had happened at 7am on October 24th at the opening of the church. The Vicar of the Custody of the Holy Land Brother Dobromir Jasztal, immediately informed, went on location to his express solidarity and provide assistance.

In the basilica, the tabernacle of the Blessed Sacrament's altar was forced, and the consecrated hosts were scattered on the ground. The ciborium containing the Blessed Sacrament was stolen. A statue of the Virgin, placed above the tabernacle was moved and later found in the space between the church and the sacristy. Another statue of the Virgin Mary, which was on a shelf in the sacristy, was thrown to the ground, found undamaged. The recordings of surveillance cameras disappeared and offering boxes were fractured.

"The most severe damage sustained are those caused to the altar of the Blessed Sacrament - explains Brother Dobromir - because the Sacred Species were discarded and door of the Tabernacle was destroyed. There was no other damage to the church and to the pictures." Police quickly attended the scene to start the initial investigation. For now, we know neither the identity of the persons responsible for this act nor the reasons that led to it.
