Vocations “come and follow me”

Spiritual Exercises at Farnese

The year of Postulancy is ending and we are preparing for a new and important formative step: The Novitiate. Our community is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new aspirants in a few days from the gathering house of Bethlehem in Palestine and from Harissa in Lebanon who like us will be spending a grace-filled year at Montefalco.
In preparation for the year of the Novitiate, we have spent a week in spiritual exercise along with the postulants from other Italian provinces namely Lazio, Tuscany, Sicily and North Italy and within a few days, we will be receiving the “habit of trial”. This year the retreat was held at Farnese in the province of Viterbo in a beautiful convent of the sisters of St. Claire and during this time, we were accommodated at their pilgrim house. They even participated with us in many of our gatherings. The retreat started on Saturday 19, August with the arrival of the Preacher Fr. Federico Righetti from the convent of Rezzato, responsible for the missions of the people of North Italy. After a brief moment of introduction, he outlined the activities of the spiritual week explaining the significance and the way, because for most of us, this would be the first time we would be participating in a course of spiritual exercises. The theme for the exercise was “Lord, teach us to pray” with an itinerary on prayers taken from various extracts of the Sacred Scripture and various other writings of St. Peter of Alcantara and his celebrated “Trattato sulla Preghiera”. The days consisted of times spent in community prayer with the sisters, silence, personal reflection, of Eucharistic adoration and two daily gatherings where they would us break into groups to offer on prayers and meditate. The hours, though very intense, passed by quickly with beautiful moments in total intimacy with the Lord Jesus. The retreat concluded of Friday, 25 August with some time spent in sharing; in thanksgiving to the Lord for the benefits received during the retreat; and for the opportunity of meeting and thanking the sisters of St. Clare who had accompanied us with their prayers and with guidance all through these days. Therefore, we hope to carry forward this beautiful experience like treasure and to continue to meditate continuously as we are prepare for the religious vesting ceremony on the 04th of September and the beginning of the novitiate year on the 13th of September.
