Vocations “come and follow me”

Retreat in the Marche, S. Liberato’s Hermit, 29 September-02 October 2013.

“When I heard from Father Bahjat that you were all to come here, to S. Liberato, I was really pleased; especially for the dear affection that binds me to the Custody of the Holy Land… The Marche, together with Umbria, are the very heart of Italy, just as they carry the same central significance for the Friars Minors: for it’s a land rich with saints of legend and fantastical scenery, that naturally inspires in people of spirit a will to seek the splendor of God’s face, and his shining, yet hidden, Majesty; it is also the land that nurtured the well-known “Flowers of Saint Francis”, a collection of stories that with apparent simplicity conceal powerful teachings of sanctity and virtue, concerning the life and ways of Saint Francis”. These are the welcoming words of Father Renato Martini to the postulants of the Custody who right now live in Montefalco: he was the one to lead and introduce them to four days of radical experience of prayer and spiritual retreat in S. Liberato’s hermit.
The schedule was quite busy: it began at midnight with one hour of Eucharistic Adoration; at seven o’clock a.m. the morning prayers followed by the Mass; at twelve the Holy Rosary; at three p.m. another hour of Adoration; at quarter to seven p.m., Vespers for evening prayer; finally, after dinner, the night prayer to complete the day… until midnight, where the day begins with the exposition of the Holy Sacrament. In the mornings, Father Renato preached about of Mattew chapter 19th, followed by silence time to meditate what we heard: we can summarize our meditations with the one sentence of absolute power “Jesus, I trust in you”.
It has been a really precious time in which we postulant had the opportunity to refresh our faith and to pray deeply to make clearer our vacation.
